Firriato is located in the province of Trapani, one of the great wine regions of Sicily, where centuries of viticulture have given this area a natural ability to produce wines with a strong sense of identity. In the early 1980s, Salvatore Di Gaetano, a businessman with a passion for his homeland, realized that this picture-postcard landscape had long since become home to the fruit of his passion: high quality wine. Thus, Firriato has become in three decades one of the largest production companies in Sicily. The initial production area in the countryside of Trapani was expanded, investing in Etna and the Aegean Islands. The new estates, Cavanera on the volcano and Calamoni on Favignana, have brought a complexity of soils and climatic conditions, two extremely different types of viticulture, that of the sea and that of the mountains. All of Firriato's vineyards have a distinctive characteristic related to exposure, microclimate, soil composition or ventilation. In the vineyards of Cavanera is a rare treasure, almost 150 years old. Firriato has implemented a modern winemaking plan based on viticulture, which enhances the varietal characteristics of each vine planted. The key to Firriato's success lies in an inescapable axiom: meticulous care in all aspects of production, from the vineyard to the cellar. In recent years, significant investments have been made to control the temperature during the various stages of processing, maturation and aging of the wines in barrels. Firriato's strength lies in its consistent choices regarding nature, biodiversity, landscape protection and innovations, with all its vineyards being certified organic.
